You would imagine the the main reasons for insisting on workwear in the workplace would be practicality and safety, yes?

So your average item of workwear would be practical for the job you were undertaking, and keep you safe.

Well that's what we thought until we found the following 5 silly work costumes we just had to share with you!

Funny uniform workwear #1 – The Vatican Guards

We can't really see what's practical or safety conscious about the unifrom that the Vatican Guards have to wear:

It doesn't look that warm, it gives us a headache, and we're not overly sure how it helps them to protect the Pope! On the plus side, it's amusing, and he'll definitely stand out in a crowd!

Funny uniform workwear #2 – The smiling face of the police

OK, we know that the police are trying to put forward a happier and more friendly face to the public, but this oufit somehow doesn't do it for us:

We suppose that on the up side, he won't get cold, but we're not sure about the practicalities of vision, not to mention the fact that orange fur probably isn't the best at shock impact if the poor guy falls off! (And, cute though he is, we're not sure he'd scare off burglars or drug dealers, to be honest!)

Funny uniform workwear #3 – Stade Francais Rugby Team

Now, we're not brave enough to tell this French Rugby Team that their uniforms are a little, shall we say, unmanly (not to their faces anyway) but come on! Rugby, the sport of men' big, hulking, manly, men. Who are evidently a little in touch with their feminine side ;)  

OK, maybe it does give them a little 'je ne sais quoi', but if we were on the opposing team then they'd definitely win, because all we would do is laugh!

Funny uniform workwear #4 – Russian Military uniform

We accept that these uniforms are practical (although we're a little bit dubious about the white gloves in snow aspect...) - the hats for the cold wintry weather, the thick heavy coats to keep out the chill winds, etc.

But we can't help but think that they look like overdressed doormen, and wonder what they're keeping under their hats (now THERE'S an idea – vodka anyone?)!

Funny uniform workwear #5 – Guards in Athens

We're not sure whether it's a trend, but here's another European guard uniform we can't help but giggle at.

Where to start?

The hats with the goth looking braids? The pom-poms on the shoes? The circulation stopping leg bands? It's a good job these guys have guns to make them feel manly ;) We're not even going to get started on white being a bit of a silly colour if you're scary enough to be carrying a gun!
